How to Apply for a Fiancé Visa in the UK

Applying for a fiancé visa in the UK involves several steps, from gathering the necessary documents to proving the authenticity of your relationship. These steps can seem overwhelming, but that’s where Immtell steps in.

Our expert consultants are ready to guide you through every step of your fiancé visa application. We help you understand the requirements, gather the necessary documentation, and compile a persuasive application to heighten your chances of securing a UK fiancé visa.

The key UK fiancé visa requirements:

The criteria for a UK fiancé visa are notably rigorous, with the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) possessing minimal flexibility for discretion. Hence, applications for UK fiancé visas must be meticulously prepared and executed to the letter.

You must apply for a fiancé visa from outside of the UK.
You and your fiancé must be 18 years old or over.
You must plan to live together permanently.
Your fiancé is either present and settled in the United Kingdom (British Citizen or holds ILR) or will arrive with you to be admitted for settlement.
You intend to marry your fiancé within six months of arrival in the UK.
Any of your or your fiancé's previous relationships (married or unmarried) must have ended.
Adequate accommodation is arranged for you and any dependents, and you can maintain yourselves and any dependents without the need for UK public funds.
Your fiancé earns more than £18,600 (expected to increase to £29,000 in Spring 2024 and again to £38,700 "in due course") per year or has enough savings to support you without claiming public funds. If you have dependent children, the minimum financial requirement is higher.
You must satisfy the English language requirement, Level A1 of the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR).

FAQs

If approved, initial UK fiancé visas are usually granted for six months. After entering into a marriage or civil partnership, you must apply to switch to a UK marriage visa or civil partner visa from within the UK.

Following five years of continuous residence holding either a spouse or civil partner visa (i.e. after the initial 6-month fiancé visa), you may qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK, effectively permanent residence, providing all the requirements are met at that time.

Children under 18 may apply for visas to accompany their parents as dependents. They may apply for their visas simultaneously as the parent applying for a UK fiancé visa.

UKVI aim to process fiancé visas as follows:
