Positive Update for UK Sponsor Licence Holders: Renewal Process Changes From 6 April 2024
Attention All UK Sponsor Licence Holders!
There’s a significant change coming to the UK sponsor licence process, and it’s great news for many of you. Starting from 6 April 2024, the requirement to renew your sponsor licence will be a thing of the past. Here’s what you need to know and how it benefits you:
For Sponsors with a Licence Expiry Date on or After 6 April 2024
- No More Renewals Needed: If your licence is set to expire on or after 6 April 2024, you’re in luck. You won’t need to go through the hassle or expense of renewing your licence or paying a renewal fee.
- Automatic Extension: Your licence expiry date should have been automatically extended by 10 years. That’s a decade of hassle-free sponsorship!
- Ignore Previous Notifications: If you’ve received a notification to renew your licence, you can now safely ignore it.
- Refunds for Early Birds: If you’ve already applied to renew your licence, don’t worry. The Home Office should contact you to arrange a refund of your renewal fee.
For Sponsors with a Licence Expiry Date Between 30 January 2024, and 6 April 2024
- One Last Renewal Required: If your licence expires before 6 April 2024, you’ll need to renew it one last time to remain licensed beyond this date. After this, no more renewals!
- After Renewal: Once you’ve renewed your licence this final time, you’ll join the ranks of those who no longer need to worry about renewals.

- Understand the Process: Refer to the Workers and Temporary Workers Guidance Part 3 or Student Sponsor Guidance Document 1 for detailed information, or again speak with your immigration adviser!
- No Action Needed for Many: If your licence expires on or after April 6, 2024, relax! The changes are automatic.
- Renew if Necessary: If your licence expires before April 6, 2024, renew it one last time.
