A Career Inside UK Immigration

Before joining Immtell, Ewen spent much of his career working across government compliance, including Home Office sponsorship compliance. His experience covers sponsor licence duties, compliance visits, operational training and case preparation, and the practical realities of how organisations are assessed when the Home Office reviews their systems.

That gives him a rare perspective: he understands not only what the rules say, but how compliance is tested in practice.

From inside.

Compliance Seen From the Inside

Many sponsor licence problems do not happen because an employer sets out to get things wrong. They happen because responsibility is spread across HR, payroll, line managers and outside advisers, with no clear system joining the parts. Having seen how the Home Office reviews sponsors, Ewen helps employers find and fix those gaps before they become serious.

How Ewen Works With Employers

At Immtell, Ewen leads mock sponsor licence compliance audits and desktop salary reviews, working with employers, HR teams, Authorising Officers and Level 1 Users. He looks closely at areas such as:

01

Sponsor Management System reporting. Whether what sits on the SMS still matches reality, and whether changes to workers, the business and key personnel have actually been reported rather than assumed.

02

10-day reporting duties. Reportable changes carry short deadlines, and missed ones are among the easiest failures for the Home Office to evidence. We check what triggers a report and who is responsible for filing it.

03

Salary compliance. Whether sponsored workers are still paid at or above the level their certificate was issued on, and whether pay rises, reduced hours or changed allowances have moved anyone below it.

04

Sponsored worker records. Right to work checks, contact details, contracts and absence records need to be complete, current and retrievable. Gaps here are what a compliance visit tends to surface first.

05

Sponsored worker records. Right to work checks, contact details, contracts and absence records need to be complete, current and retrievable. Gaps here are what a compliance visit tends to surface first.

06

Level 1 User responsibilities and internal HR processes. Who holds access, whether leavers still do, and whether the duties sit with one person whose absence would leave the licence unmanaged.

07

Readiness for Home Office scrutiny. Whether the evidence can be produced quickly and the people who hold it can explain it, because compliance that cannot be demonstrated on the day counts for very little.
