Working holiday visas for the UK are valid for 2 years.
It is not permitted to extend beyond a total 2 years in the UK with this visa type, as was the case with the working holiday maker visa previously. This is unless you are from New Zealand, where you may extend by a further 12 months – the same will apply if you are from Australia after 31 January 2024.
Unfortunately it is not possible to switch into the Youth Mobility visa from within the UK.
Unfortunately, the UK Youth Mobility Scheme visa does not lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK. Following the maximum time permitted in the UK, you will usually be required to leave the country and you can apply for a further UK working holiday visa.
Due to restrictions of the Youth Mobility visa, dependants are not permitted accompany the ‘main applicant’ to the UK. They must instead apply for a visa in a qualifying category.
Initial visa applications of this work type must be made from abroad, either from your country of nationality or legal residence. It is not permitted to switch into the Youth Mobility visa from within the UK.
UKVI aim to process visas as follows:

- Standard processing: 15 working days
- Priority Service processing: 5 working days

Important: UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) do not guarantee processing times and delays do occur. We advise that you do not book any non refundable travel until your visa has been approved and your work visa is in your possession. Priority services can be suspended without notice and may not be available at the time of application.
The UKVI application fee is £259. In addition, you will need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) which is £940 to cover the 2 year visa duration.
