If approved, initial spouse visas are usually granted for 33 months, with an extension of usually 24 months required to be submitted from within the UK.

Following five years of continuous residence as a spouse, you may qualify for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK, effectively permanent residence, providing all the requirements are met at that time.

Children under 18 may apply for a UK visa to accompany their parents as dependants. They may apply for their visas simultaneously as the parent applying for a UK marriage visa.

It is possible to apply to switch visa category from within the UK into this visa type if you are not currently in the UK holding one of the following visa types:

UKVI aim to process marriage visas as follows:

Visa applications submitted inside the UK:

  • Standard processing: 8 weeks
  • Super Priority Service processing: 1 working day

Important: UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) does not guarantee processing times, and delays do occur.
