Visa nationals should apply for a Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) visa as part of the Standard Visitor visa process before travel.Â
Generally, if sponsored by a company you should provide evidence of your employment overseas and a letter of invitation from the company or organisation in the UK specifying the purpose and duration of your visit.
Even if sponsored by an organisation, Entry Clearance Officers (ECOs) consider your circumstances, such as family and social ties to your home country and financial circumstances.
It is permitted to apply for visitor visas which now include PPE activities with a validity period of six months, two years, five years or ten years with varying applicable fees. However, the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) has discretion and may issue a visa with a shorter validity period than applied for. Usually, UK visitor visas are valid for multiple entries to the UK during the validity period indicated on the vignette.Â
The maximum time permitted to stay in the UK at any one time is six months.Â
It is not possible to add dependant family members to a UK Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) visa application. However, they may submit their own visitor visa application, which will usually be processed at the same time as the ‘main applicant’. Given the intended purpose of this type of visa, attention should be given to explaining why family members also plan to travel to the UK.
