PPE Visa Requirements

There are certain key requirements that are pivotal to a successful UK PPE visa application. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Invitation: A formal invitation from a UK-based organisation is required. This is to ensure that the engagement you are coming to the UK for is relevant to your profession, expertise or qualifications.

  • Financial Capacity: You’ll need to demonstrate sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay without recourse to public funds.

  • Duration of Stay: The UK PPE visa permits you to stay in the UK for a maximum of one month.

At Immtell, we understand that every UK PPE visa application is unique. That’s why we offer personalized guidance, helping you understand the PPE visa requirements and assisting you in preparing all the necessary documentation.

Exploring the Spectrum of Permitted Paid Engagements in the UK

Understanding what engagements fall under the scope of the UK PPE visa can simplify your application process. Below, we outline some typical activities considered as permitted paid engagements in the UK:

An academic who is highly qualified within his or her field of expertise may examine students and/or participate in or chair selection panels, if they have been invited by a UK Higher Education Institution or a UK based research or arts organisation as part of that institution or organisation’s quality assurance processes
An expert may give lectures in their subject area, if they have been invited by a UK Higher Education Institution; or a UK based research or arts organisation provided this does not amount to filling a teaching position for the host organisation
An overseas designated pilot examiner may assess UK based pilots to ensure they meet the national aviation regulatory requirements of other countries, if they have been invited by an approved training organisation based in the UK that is regulated by the UK Civil Aviation Authority for that purpose
A qualified lawyer may provide advocacy for a court or tribunal hearing, arbitration or other form of dispute resolution for legal proceedings within the UK, if they have been invited by a client
A professional artist, entertainer, musician or sports person may carry out an activity directly relating to their profession, if they have been invited by a creative (arts or entertainment) or sports organisation, agent or broadcaster based in the UK

Visa nationals should apply for a Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) visa in advance of travel.  You can check if you are a citizen of a country considered a visa national by UKVI HERE

Generally, if sponsored by a company, UK PPE visit visa applicants should provide evidence of their employment overseas and a letter of invitation from the company or organisation in the UK specifying the purpose and duration of the visit.

Even if sponsored by an organisation, Entry Clearance Officers (ECOs) consider the individual personal circumstances of the applicant, such as family and social ties to your home country and financial circumstances.

The UK Permitted Paid Engagement visa is usually valid for 1 month and a single entry to the UK only.

The maximum time permitted to stay in the UK at any one time is 1 month.

It is not possible to add dependant family members to a UK Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) visa application.  However, they may submit their own visitor visa application which will usually be processed at the same time as the ‘main applicant’. Given the intended purpose of this type of visas, attention should be given to explain why family members also intend to travel to the UK.

All applications for a UK PPE visa must be made from outside of the UK.

UKVI aim to process PPE visit visas as follows:

Visa applications submitted outside of the UK:

  • Standard processing: 15 working days
  • Priority Service processing: 5 working days

Important: UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) do not guarantee processing times and delays do occur. We advise that you do not book any non refundable travel until your visa has been approved and your work visa is in your possession.  Priority services can be suspended without notice and may not be available at the time of application.

The UKVI application fee is as follows:

  • Up to 1 month: £115

Our professional fee will depend on the level of service you require. Please see the options below or contact us for further information.
