UK Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) Visa

Navigate the UK PPE Visa Process with Immtell

Navigating the complexities of the UK Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE)  process can be daunting, especially without expert guidance. With Immtell, we break down the complexities, giving you a clear, user-friendly path through the PPE visa application process.

Permitted Paid Engagements (PPE) are now incorporated into the Standard Visitor category; therefore, if you already have a UK Visitor Visa, you do not need to apply for a specific visa. However, the activities for a PPE remain unchanged, and you are required to arrange the paid activity you intend to undertake in the UK before travel and do it within 30 days of arrival. The specific professional engagements allowed include, but are not limited to, academic, arts, entertainment, and sporting activities.

At Immtell, we understand that every UK PPE visa application is unique. That’s why we offer personalised guidance, helping you understand the PPE visa requirements and assisting you in preparing all the necessary documentation.

Exploring the Spectrum of Permitted Paid Engagements in the UK

Understanding what engagements fall under the scope of the UK PPE visa can simplify your application process. Below, we outline some typical activities considered as permitted paid engagements in the UK:

A highly qualified academic in their field of expertise may examine students and/or participate in or chair selection panels if they have been invited by a UK Higher Education Institution or a UK-based research or arts organisation as part of that institution or organisation’s quality assurance processes.
An expert may give lectures in their subject area if a UK Higher Education Institution or a UK-based research or arts organisation has invited them, provided this does not amount to filling a teaching position for the host organisation.
An overseas designated pilot examiner may assess UK-based pilots to ensure they meet other countries' national aviation regulatory requirements if they have been invited by an approved training organisation based in the UK that the UK Civil Aviation Authority regulates for that purpose.
A qualified lawyer may conduct additional activities, including advising, acting as an expert witness, appearing in arbitrations, litigating, and teaching. They may provide advocacy for a court or tribunal hearing, arbitration or other form of dispute resolution for legal proceedings within the UK, if a client has invited them
A professional artist, entertainer, musician or sportsperson may carry out an activity directly relating to their profession if they have been invited by a creative (arts or entertainment) or sports organisation, agent or broadcaster based in the UK.

FAQs

Visa nationals should apply for a Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) visa as part of the Standard Visitor visa process before travel.

Generally, if sponsored by a company you should provide evidence of your employment overseas and a letter of invitation from the company or organisation in the UK specifying the purpose and duration of your visit.

Even if sponsored by an organisation, Entry Clearance Officers (ECOs) consider your circumstances, such as family and social ties to your home country and financial circumstances.

It is permitted to apply for visitor visas which now include PPE activities with a validity period of six months, two years, five years or ten years with varying applicable fees. However, the Entry Clearance Officer (ECO) has discretion and may issue a visa with a shorter validity period than applied for. Usually, UK visitor visas are valid for multiple entries to the UK during the validity period indicated on the vignette.

The maximum time permitted to stay in the UK at any one time is six months.

It is not possible to add dependant family members to a UK Permitted Paid Engagement (PPE) visa application.  However, they may submit their own visitor visa application, which will usually be processed at the same time as the ‘main applicant’. Given the intended purpose of this type of visa, attention should be given to explaining why family members also plan to travel to the UK.

All applications for a UK PPE visa must be made from outside of the UK.

UKVI aim to process PPE visit visas as follows:

Visa applications submitted outside of the UK:

  • Standard processing: 15 working days
  • Priority Service processing: 5 working days

Important: UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) does not guarantee processing times, and delays do occur. We advise that you only book non-refundable travel once your visa has been approved and your work visa is in your possession.  Priority services can be suspended without notice and may not be available during application.

The UKVI application fees are as follows:

  • Up to 6 months: £115
  • Up to 2 years: £400
  • Up to 5 years: £771
  • Up to 10 years: £963

Our professional fee will depend on the level of service you require.
