UK Temporary Worker - Religious Visa

Religious Worker Visa (Temporary Work)

For those of you considering working in the UK in a religious capacity, the UK Temporary Worker Religious visa is an excellent pathway. This visa permits you to live and work in the UK for a religious organisation, whether a minister of religion, missionary or a member of a religious order.

What is a Temporary Worker Religious Visa?

The UK Temporary Worker Religious visa allows non-British and Irish individuals to undertake religious work in the UK. This could involve preaching, pastoral work, or a role within a religious order. You might be eligible to apply if you’ve got a confirmed job offer from a licensed religious organisation in the UK.

Who Can Apply?

Applicants for the Temporary Worker Religious visa should have a job offer from a religious organisation in the UK that holds a valid applicable Home Office sponsorship license. The offer must detail that the work meets the organisation’s requirements for a religious worker.

Benefits of Applying

A UK Temporary Worker Religious visa allows you to stay in the UK for up to 24 months, or the time given on your certificate of sponsorship plus 28 days, whichever is shorter. You can extend this visa for up to 2 years, giving you ample time to contribute to your religious organisation in the UK.

Unpacking the Key Criteria for the Religious Temporary Worker Visa

Navigating the path towards a successful visa application can be daunting. Here, we break down the essential Religious Temporary Worker visa requirements. The following points serve as a roadmap, guiding you through the fundamental prerequisites that must be met for a successful visa application:

You must obtain sponsorship from an employer registered as Home Office sponsor. Upon sponsorship, you will be issued a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), like an online UK work permit.
You must have held £1,270 in savings for 28 days before the date of application, or an A-rated Home Office sponsor may certify that they will provide this on the CoS. Further funds must be held for each dependant family member applying.

If sponsorship continues, it is possible to apply for an extension up to the maximum time of 2 years in the UK.

Unfortunately it is not permitted to switch into this temporary work category from within the UK.

Unfortunately, the Religious Temporary Worker visa does not lead to Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR) in the UK.  Following the maximum time permitted in the UK, you will usually be required to leave the country.

Spouses or partners and children under the age of 18 may apply for visas to accompany you to the UK as your ‘dependants’.  Your spouse or partner should be permitted to work.
